Prime Minister
I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the Peace Regional Air Show.
A century ago, the Silver Dart took flight in a remarkable feat of engineering, ingenuity and courage, made possible by a small group of pioneers. As with any challenge worth overcoming, they suffered several failed attempts at flight until the day the Silver Dart was brought on to frozen Baddeck Bay. After more than a year of experimentation and determination, the aircraft rose into the crisp winter sky, flying for over one kilometre, marking the first piloted flight of an air machine in Canada, and changing the face of aviation.
I am certain that everyone will be amazed by today’s spectacular performances, and I would like to join you in giving special thanks to the members of the Peace Regional Air Show Association, the sponsors, and all the volunteers who make this show such a success. Each year the Peace Regional Air Show gets bigger and better, and you should take great pride in its history and the benefits it brings to your community.

As the Member of Parliament for Peace River I would like to welcome you to the 2009 Peace Regional Airshow. I am pleased that you have taken the opportunity to attend this excellent exhibition and show.
One hundred years of powered flight have seen countless changes to this now essential form of transportation. As a result of the innovation in flight today, our world is much smaller and we are more connected to each other and distant places.
Take time to enjoy the exhibits, the show and the entertainment. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile regional event. I would like to thank the participants and organizers who have worked so hard to make this Airshow a reality and who have brought us an event to remember.

Welcome all visitors, exhibitors, and participants to the beautiful Peace River Region of northern Alberta, and to the Peace River Air Show!
I want to congratulate the organizers and volunteers who have worked so hard to make this show a success – your efforts are deeply appreciated. I also want to thank the Government of Alberta for their generosity in supporting this event with a grant from the Lottery Fund.
This year’s show theme, “Imagination Takes Flight”, is a fitting way to underscore the important role that aviation has played, and will continue to play, in the north. There is a bit of pilot in each of us, fueled by a rich regional aviation history and by our own imaginations. I hope you all enjoy the show, and I hope your own imaginations can take flight!
